Practice Areas: Primary Care (pediatrics, ob/gyn, internal medicine, family practice, general practice geriatrics, and psychiatry)

Specialists: Yes; up to 20% of the waivers (6 slots) may go to specialists until April 1 at that time completed applications are taken on a first-come, first-served basis regardless of physician specialty. All specialty applications must demonstrate a "dire need" for the specialty in order to obtain support for the physician’s waiver request.

Application Review: Rolling Review based on applications received 10/1 until full

Notes: Physicians must have completed a US residency in primary care. State 30 physicians must work in HPSAs, MUA/P locations do not qualify. 80% of the waivers are held for primary care and 20% are held for specialists until April 1, after which, all waivers are considered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Louisiana will consider FLEX applicants for a facility not in a HPSA so long as 30% or more of the patients served are residents of the HPSA. J1 physician's salary must be equal to at least 100% of the Level 2 of the prevailing wage found on the U.S. Dept. of Labor Wage Search on the DOL web page.
